Wisdom

The wisest man I have ever known was also really knowledgeable. He had a PhD in botany, or something to do with biology. You’d never know it though. He was usually the one asking all the questions, not giving the answers.

Maybe asking questions is part of the key to wisdom. This guy I knew probably learned more from the questions he asked than all the work he did on his degrees. He was one of those few people that are secure enough not to feel a need to prove how much they know.

One of the classical definitions of wisdom is that it is the ability to use knowledge effectively. Knowledge is the ability to learn and retain facts. A lot of people can do that. But applying those facts in any given situation is not so easy.

The Bible has a lot to say about wisdom. In fact, it has a whole book on it. Over the next several weeks we are going to look at wisdom and how we can become wiser people in our daily living. Won’t you join us?

An Inauspicious Start

So much for getting off to a great start on our trip. The plane was late leaving Detroit and arrived too late for our connecting flight to Nicaragua. Unfortunately this cut rate airline doesn’t seem to have any reciprocal agreements with other airlines so we are stuck here until Monday night. We are bored!

There isn’t much around our hotel except a Bass Pro Shop. Now that sounds pretty good but there is a limit to how much time you can spend even there. I should have asked for a job since I learned where most of the stuff was after a few hours. We did get to try alligator at their restaurant. It really doesn’t taste like chicken.

We also went to the International Fishing Museum but that only took about 2 hours. Their Wii was broken but some of there other games worked so that amused us for awhile.

Well, just 5 more hours before we head to the airport to try again. Hopefully we will be building by early tomorrow morning.
